Superb picture with HD sources, all round excellent TV

Have had the 50PZ700U for one month now. Fantastic TV that delivers vibrant real life pictures when paired with HD programming. I watched Jay Leno's Tonight Show in HD and was blown away by the picture clarity and color reproduction. The built-in speakers deliver superb audio and I watch most shows without turning on my receiver.

I am a perfectionist for looks, picture clarity and an audiophile. I think the TV scores exceedingly well on all three grounds in my books. The look with the black piano finish is stunning. The remote is very user friendly and very comfy to hold.

The only thing buyers should consider is, plasma tv's in general are not good handlers of glare caused by light sources. This is becuase of their glossy screens. This is true for any plasma. The anti reflective coating in this TV is not very effective - I had to draw my blinds and curtains to watch glare free during the day. Again, this is an issue only of you have a window directly opposite to your TV. If glare is a challenge for you, go for an LCD TV. I also own a Samsung 40"LCD (Samsung-LNT4065F-1080p-LCD-HDTV) in our Dining room that has a lot of light coming in. It handles the glare with ease and delivers equally good picture quality.

I think this 50PZ700U TV was well worth the investment and I am extremely pleased with my purchase. If you are looking to buy a 50" plasma, this is your best bet on all counts!

Sharp LC15SH6U 15" LCD TV

After reviewing several buyer's feedback on purchases of 15" LCD televisions, I was guided by the comments (both negative & positive) about several manufacturers and sellers of HDTV LCD televisions, I shied away from lower priced products because of the negative feedbacks detailing picture quality (or lack of) product operational failures, poor customer support on complaints, etc. The Sharp LCD TV is a quality product, and I'm glad I decided to buy Sharp. The retailer (Fry's electronics) provided excellent delivery service and accurate billing. I woul strongly recommnd to potential future buyers of LCD tv,s to stay with a quality maker such as Sony, Toshiba, Sharp or Samsung, etc. even though you may pay a little more than the cheap prducts on the market, because in the long run they won't regret it ! The bottom line is; Research thoroughly allproducts before buying. A bargain is not a bargain if in the long run you end up with more grief. Buying on the internet has greater risk factors versus walking into a retail store where the product can be returned if unsatisfactory. Amazon & Ebay, I've learned have reputable vendors on the Internet and some vendors mot very reputable ?

30" To 50" Articulating Flat Panel Mount

This mount is very good for the money. It is heavy, sturdy and very versatile in it's mobility. Mounting it took about two hours and an extra set of hands. This included unpacking everything, sorting through parts, and placing the wall plate up. Make sure you use a level before drilling holes. There is a very small tolerance to shift it before tightening the lag bolts. Overall, it is easy to move around and doesn't wobble or feel loose.

I only had two problems. Although Sanus's website says it this mount works for the Panasonic TH-42PX60U, it isn't quite accurate. Panasonic recommends the OMNIMOUNT's and I see why. The placement of the inputs on the back of the TV make it hard to pull out and plug in certain RCA connectors because of where the bottom support bar lines up across the back. Yes, you can adjust the mount to a higher setting, but keep in mind that you have less of the TV supported at its center when tilting the TV and it may cause some stress on the structure. I didn't want to find out. My paranoia after spending $1400 on a TV. When using the spacers, the long M8 bolts provided don't reach the TV threads. I had to go to Home Depot to find bolts that where about a 1/2" to 3/4" longer to use the spacers. This allowed for some space to move plugs if required.

On a seperate point, the product was shipped in it's original box, which was pretty beat up and taped with 3 pieces of clear packing tape. The items inside were in their bags, but pretty scratched up. Can't tell if it was from the shipping, but the product had a used look and I paid for new. I guess they could have reboxed it a little better. The slight design problem with my specific model TV is a Sanus problem. Remember to confirm what accessories have been test fitted with your TV through the TV manufacturer and not just the mount website. 4 stars for the overall experience. The mount itself earns 5 stars.

LCD Articulating Wall Mount for Screens Up To 22 In with vesa 75/100MM

This unit is solid and very well made. THe mounting flange mates perfectly with my NEC 20" LCD monitor and the included screws fit as they should. In a few minutes I got my desk back! What's strange about this unit however is that even after I used a carpenter's level to mark the placement of the mounting holes on the wall, I found that the LCD is still not level when the entire setup is assembled. This means remounting the whole assembly at once rather than the mount and then the monitor (which is what the instructions show). This seems needlessly inefficient and a little precarious since the monitor and mounting hardware are all hanging by one screw while it's being done. Some users may not even worry about the screen not being level, but mine is mounted in front of picture frames and the out-of-level condition is conspicuous by comparison. (Dry wall anchors are included with the unit, but I strongly suggest not using them; find a wall stud and mount it right. Correction: these are concrete anchors, not for drywall. My concern is that someone might use them in drywall instead of screwing directly into a stud, which would be unfortunate to say the least when the screen hits the floor.)

Peerless ST650P Tilting Wall Mount for 32" to 50" Flat Panel Displays

This kit gave me a lot of confidence when I installed the mount. Instructions are very clear and include a lot of details, and the diagrams are excellent. Comes with a list of about 800 different TV models and which hardware to use for each. The hardware itself is a marvel of organization: 14 different labeled pouches so you can find exactly what you need instantly. I did need to purchase a couple of screws, but if you can wait they'll send them to you if you call. The instructions were written by someone whose first language is English. The level of detail of the instructions were down to things like making sure you center the brackets vertically on the TV, and how many threads to engage, and what torque you shouldn't exceed on the screws. Many folks won't need that much info, but if you have very limited experience at doing this type of thing like me, you'll appreciate it.

My point of comparison is a Simplicity kit which I returned when I discovered it was a store return and some of the washers had been bent out of shape. That kit had much less information and detail, and of course not all of the necessary hardware (none of which was labeled). One instruction was to test the screws until you found the right size for your TV but to be careful not to damage the threads on your TV by forcing the wrong size screw!

I installed this bracket for my 40" Sony Bravia KDL-40S2000. Only needed to purchase 2 M5 x 16 machine screws from Home Depot, otherwise I am very pleased with this purchase.

Sony KDL-40S2010 40" Bravia S-Series LCD HDTV

After considerable research and visits to local stores, I bought the Sony 40" at Amazon (after initially considering a Sharp Aquos). The comments of reviewers here at the Amazon site were most helpful. Ordered the unit on a Wednesday, got a call from Eagle(the shippers) on Friday afternoon and it was delivered on Saturday. Eagle was great. Plugged the unit in and I have been enjoying my Sony Bravia tremendously for a week now.

Had one morning when the digital channels disappeared. But a call to Sony pointed me to Cablevision who corrected the problem. Sony Customer Service was patient and complete.

Most helpful were the reviewer comments regarding other stuff. I went with the Monoprice HDMI Switcher to expand the HDMI ports and went with the Sony CD/DVD Player (DVP-NS75H). The result is truly GREAT!!! Add on Cablevision Triple Play services and I have a simple array of excellent technology products, with fine customer service and at affordable prices. Did I mention the competitive Amazon pricing?

Pioneer PDP-4270HD PureVision 42" Plasma HDTV

I just got this TV yesterday and watched Discovery HD theater and was blown away! I adjusted all the parameters to the specs I saw on [...] and the tv was just awesome. The colors were amazing and brilliant! I hope the screen doesn't begin to fade as I've heard they can do. I also have an LCD and that doesn't come close as to brilliant as the Pioneer does. I am glad I spend the extra money for it!

Samsung HPT5064 50" Plasma HDTV

I shopped endlessly for an HDTV at all of the retail stores, and I was pretty much set on Samsung for quality and price. I finally decided on the 50 inch 5064 and I am so glad I did. It looks beautiful, just mesmerizing. My signal is from Verizon FIOS for the HD with an HD-DVR through HDMI connections.

The order was filled within one week and the delivery company called me to arrange a time the next day. They arrived on time, unboxed the unit, moved my old 36 inch CRT (240 pounds) and set up the new plasma TV, all in about 10 minutes. The crew was very friendly and professional. All in all I saved money and had a very pleasant purchase experience.

The only problem is that I can't stop watching it! It's great!

Panasonic TH-50PX60U 50" Plasma HDTV

Have had this TV for about a week and am very pleased with it so far. Only reason I didn't give a 5 stars are problems that I understand are inherent to most or all plasmas

1. Low buzzing sound from all the power that this and other plasmas consume, not really all that noticeable though, I really have to have the volume way down and after a few days I don't really even notice it anymore, it's just more noticeable than the LCD we had.

2. Our living room is very bright during the day and there is quite a bit of glare.

I first bought the new Sharp Aquos LC46D62U a few weeks ago and was very happy with it, but returned it after a week as we paid way too much for it compared to Amazon's price after paying all the sales tax, and due to the distance that we sit from our TV and the fact that we will not be using 1080P technology any time soon (through buying a HD DVD or Blu-Ray player) so it was not worth it for us to pay extra for 1080P. So I decided to return it to the "big box" store. I then turned around and bought this from Amazon saving a bunch of dough and am very happy with it's 720P. Our non scrambled HD channels that we get over "basic" cable look awesome, especially PBS who hands down has the best most consistent HD broadcasts for our local HD channels.

Eagle's shipping service was just fine, we ordered the TV on Monday and got the TV the following Saturday. I actually was too impatient to wait for Eagle to deliver the TV to our house so when Eagle contacted me to arrange delivery, I offered to come pick it up since they're warehouse was just down the road.

Overall I am very pleased with the TV and the entire transaction.

Toshiba Plasma TV Review 42HP66 42” Flat Panel Plasma TV

Toshiba recently introduced the 42HP66 as its flagship High Definition plasma television. Although it is the newest model offering, the 42HP66 is a fundamentally different television than its predecessor, the 42HP95. Built in Thailand, its circuitry and plasma display panel (PDP) differ from the high-quality Toshiba parts that Toshiba contracted for the 42HP95 and earlier models. While this is a strategic move on Toshiba’s part to cut costs and offer lower prices than their first-tier competitors, many industry insiders are skeptical as to whether Toshiba can maintain the high quality to which its customers are accustomed.

Model: Toshiba 42HP66
Description: 42” Plasma Television, Widescreen 16:9 Format
Resolution: 1024x768 (HDTV)

Includes: Integrated pedestal stand and speakers, NTSC and ATSC (HDTV) tuners, 2 HDMI high-definition, 2 component video, 3 composite video, 3 S-Video connection 1 VGA Input (PC connection).

Panasonic TH-42PX60U 42" Plasma HDTV

I am very impressed with this television. After weighing the pros and cons of LCD TVs vs Plasma TVs vs DLPs and the new 3LCD Sony, and reading the home theatre forums and avsforum, I finally settled on Plasma TVs being the best choice for me. Given the large viewing angle and crystal clear picture combined with the superior performance and slim screen it was an easy decision. And in the Plasma category I found that Panasonic came highly recommended by several sources on the web and also by consumer reports (all top 3 slots were taken by Panasonic, with 42 inch at 3rd place) although CR evaluated last year's model. And this year in a May 2006 article they comment " Based on preliminary testing, the Panasonic TH-42PX60U and TH-50PX60U look like strong performers. They have outstanding picture quality and more useful features than the 50U models they replace--and, with the continuing decline in flat-panel TV prices, they even cost less." There is a full article available to subscribers outlining other enhancements, but the gist of the article was that the added features are terrific with a con being a some minor display flaws with images having hard edges and exaggerated details" but which they stressed may not be visible to the typical viewer. They haven't been visible to me and I spent some time looking at the displays of Samsung, Sony, Philips, Maxent, Pioneer and Panasonic in several stores to compare. To my naked eye - Panasonic came out tops which is why I bought it!

Nothing much has changed really except that you cannot put in a cable card in the new Panasonics. But if you use a cable card, you cannot get the VOD (video-on-demand) programming and you will not get the DVR box from your cable company to record all the programs. So the loss of that feature did not worry me. I had also debated between the Panasonic professional series, which is available for almost the same price as the consumer version and is top notch quality but the speakers and pedestal stand have to be bought separately and it dosen't have inbuilt tuner. Finally the consumer model won over others just because it was a great quality at a great price. The 42 inch size was just right for my living room.

To get a good price, I shopped around in the 2 largest brick and mortar electronic stores after checking prices online for about a month. And I got the best deal by shopping around at Best Buy this week at just below 2000 (unadvertised store special, before taxes) and they threw in the 2 day shipping (in home, unpacked and assembled on stand) for free. Their 4 year in home repair warranty was also at the best price among all the retailers I checked. The TV with 4 yr warranty and taxes cost me $2400. If you buy the TV BB will give you a small percentage off on the stand/shelf/wall mount and any cables. They also threw in the Rewards Zone card for free which gets you a $5 gift card for every 150 spent. I bought a Monster HDMI cable on the biggest auction site at less than half the store price and an upconverting Philips DVD player from CircuitC to get a good DVD image. The upconverting DVD player connects to the TV with an HDMI cable and converts the regular 720i resolution to 1080i for an enhanced picture. Most upconverting HDMI DVD players are available at sub $100 prices. With your regular DVD player (not upconverting) you can use a 'component' cable to get a better picture. There are some better HD DVD players out there to use with HD DVDs but it's better to wait now to buy a more sophisticated DVD player as HD-DVDs and Blu Ray discs have just been launched. Six months later we'll see some lower prices on those players. The picture from the upconverting DVD player at 1080i resolution makes the usual DVDs look better on the Panasonic. I don't get HD cable through my provider I cannot comment on the cable signal.

The SD card slot is not too useful as when I popped in my SD card to view pictures it took almost 8-10 seconds to transition between pictures. You can rotate the images on screen through the remote if needed. However, the play speed is so slow as the TV takes time to read the card and it is better to burn your pictures to a disc to view them on this TV. I don't think I will use the slot very often.

Some reviews on the web have specified how to change the picture setting for a more true to life picture and it is easy to change contrast/sharpness/brightness/ black levels through the remote and set it to your liking. Some reviews have commented that this TV shows the best non-HD digital signal picture.

There is S video and composite connection in the front panel too (below the screen) which made it easy to connect my video camera to watch the home videos. It was more fun watching Disney parades on a 42 inch screen!

6/9/06 Update:
I tried out this TV with the Terk antennas to get off-air HD channels as my cable company does not provide HD Programming. The built-in tuner automatically scanned for the HD channels once I plugged in the antenna and set it to auto scan. I got the best results with a Terk HDTVa antenna (Vs. Terk HDTVi and Terk TV5)bought from Amazon. I am about 10-30 miles from most stations in a suburban area with tall trees. The HD signal is either perfect or you get a pixelated screen and if you point the directional antenna in the right direction it is easy to get a great picture as long as you live within 25 mile radius of the TV stations. Those closer to the TV stations may be able to pick up good signals through cheaper 'rabbit ear' antennas. To figure out how to point your antenna in the right directon just enter your address at antennaweb.org to get the recommendations. I got NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX, TBS, PBS, plus 8-10 other free HD channels. This is the point when this Panny really made it worth the investment! The picture was crystal clear with incredible detail. Watching a baseball game on TBS was a very different experience when you saw the sweat bead up on players faces!

Zenith P60W26P 60" Plasma Flat-Panel HDTV

This TV is Big! The picture is fantastic, I read and reviewed hundreds of Plasma's before purchasing this television. I considered purchasing a DLP, LCD, even a front progection system. When it came down to it, this plasma kicked all of them out. The picture was better than all of them. No matter the brand this plasma was the best picture. Some complained to me about the 25,000 hour limit on the screen UNTIL I told them. 25,000 MEANS watching TV 4 hours a day...the TV would last 17.12 years. In 10 years every tv will be obsolete.
[...]
Again, this review is for the TV. The TV is fantastic, everyone who comes over says, "Wow!" or "Blank (fill in the blank), that's nice."
I have no problems with the TV, it looks nice and runs great. What more can you want?
I posted this review because of all the research I did looking for a plasma only to find stupid reviews from idiots that had never seen or owned one, only fools that had seen the picture and said, "that looks nice."
Hope this helps someone.

Samsung HPR4252 42" High Definition Plasma TV With Integrated ATSC/Digital Cable Ready Tuner Other products by Samsung

After several years of watching our old Sony 27" TV deteriorate, we decided take a risk and spend what seemed like an outrageous sum to buy this TV. It was definitely the way to go -- great value for the money and it is cool that we are ready whenever the cable/braodcast world goes HD. The color is brilliant, features are extensive (a little confusing at first) -- sound is good even when not using our 5.1 DTS. There is a very explicit warning about "burn-in" from channel logos, tickers, freeze-frame images, etc. but I think (hope) this is easily managed by avoiding such images and adjusting picture size. Also be aware that the picture-in -picture (PIP) is limited in the sense that the TV itself has only one tuner -- but a second source and tuner (like a VCR) should work. We have enjoyed many favorite movies and some new ones too since getting this TV three weeks ago. You will see detail you didn't know existed and discover that those beautiful movie stars actually have complexion problems like the rest of us. We used "The Wizard of Oz" as the benchmark to evaluate this TV, because is is so familiar -- and the richness of this 66-year old classic is nothing short of astounding. Also -- unlike another reviewer reported, our picture needed no adjustment, and the settings you can adjust we did not find difficult to use. A negative: when the delivery folks arrived they did not set up the TV, as promised in the Amazon description. This was the most unnerving aspect of the whole transaction but everything turned out fine. If you love movies this is a terrific TV.
